Our parents and grandparents often took numerous pictures,
which we inherit, often without the background to understand what they
represent. It can be a major chore just to get the people identified, much less
reveal how these people from our past impacted those who took the pictures, and,
through them, ourselves.

 | These old photos present several unique challenges. |
 | They often require repair or rework to save them. |
 | We are often faced with tons of them at once. |
 | There is usually no indication of when the pictures were taken,
what the occasion was, or who the people are. |
 | It is often difficult to find anyone who can identify the people
or places. |
 | We created and printed an album of unidentified people and took
it to a family reunion to get names. The books were a hit -- we
didn't get most of them back. |
 | Now we use online albums so we don't lose what we share. |

Tons of snapshots have been processed and then stored away in shoeboxes and
drawers. We inherit so many fragile photographs of long forgotten aunts and
uncles, and once dear family friends. We
puzzle over the time worn treasures of our family’s history and wonder who
these people were and how we are connected to them.
Maybe it’s not too late to put names and dates to many of these dimming
faces. The ability to scan,
preserve and share these heirlooms is now at
our fingertips.
