Computer ScienceThere are thousands of books on computers, computer programming, and computer science with more coming everyday. With such a quantity of titles, there are bound to be winners and losers. This section covers some of the winners that I have found. Science FictionScience fiction authors have a great deal of freedom in generating ideas and theories since they don't have to be "true", merely plausible. Science fiction authors are also free to investigate concepts that are neither scientifically nor politically correct. As a result, some of the most interesting scientific, cultural, and philosophical ideas come from science fiction. When these ideas are taken as hypotheses to be explored, they often yield very powerful tools and insights. The "Golden Age" of science fiction has faded into an era of fantasy and horror, with very little "hard core" science fiction left. Most of the really great books are by the older great authors. There are a few promising young authors, and you will find them here when we find them. Action / AdventureDetective novels aren't of much interest, but the secret agent stories and martial arts stories are fascinating |
